UniFi Protect Video Monitoring · Now in beta

Live operator review,
for UniFi Protect.

Trained Uniguard Pro monitoring agents review your UniFi Protect camera events in real time. If they see something suspicious, they trigger your sirens, raise an alarm, notify your emergency contacts, or dispatch emergency services. Now open in beta, with nothing to install on site.

How it works

From AI flag to operator decision

  1. UniFi Protect AI flags events

Your UniFi Protect cameras run on-device AI — motion in restricted hours, person-in-zone, loitering, vehicle, line-cross, package detection. Flagged events stream into Uniguard Pro with the triggering snapshot and a short video clip already attached.

  2. Live operators review the footage

Every flagged event lands in front of a trained Uniguard Pro monitoring agent within seconds. The operator opens the clip, scans the scene, and makes a judgement call: routine, worth a notification, or something worse.

  3. Operators escalate at their discretion

If the operator sees something suspicious, they raise an alarm on the spot, notify your emergency contacts, or dispatch emergency services if the situation warrants it. Every decision and every escalation is logged in the audit trail.

  4. Operators deter, not just observe

Before or alongside an escalation the operator can speak to whoever is on camera through the camera's own speaker, and a confirmed threat automatically sounds the UniFi sirens at your site on the cameras you've opted in. A live voice addressing someone directly is often enough to end it before anyone has to be dispatched.

See it in action

What the operator sees when your camera flags something

This is the verification screen behind every escalation: the recorded lead-up on one side, your live feed on the other, and a single decision — threat or no threat — that drives what happens next.

Watch a verification end to end. An event flags, the operator reviews the footage alongside the live feed, and makes the call. The recording also shows the operator speaking to the person on camera; talk-down is coming soon.
Operator verification screen: extended footage of a hooded person at a warehouse roll-up door on the left, the live camera feed on the right with a 'Talkdown connected' control, and two decision buttons — 'Yes, threat seen' and 'No, there is not a threat'.
The operator’s view. Extended footage on the left shows how the person got there; the live feed on the right shows what they’re doing now.
  • Recorded lead-up + live feed, side by side

The operator scrubs the moments before the flag at 1x, 2x or 4x while the live feed keeps running — so they know both how the person arrived and what they're doing right now.

  • Talk-down — coming soon

The walkthrough shows an operator addressing the person through the camera's speaker. That is coming soon and is not part of the service today.

  • One decision drives everything after

“Yes, threat seen” or “No, there is not a threat”, with a reason (break-in, employee, person left). A confirmed threat fires your opted-in sirens and starts the escalation path you chose.

What you get

The UniFi Protect Video Monitoring stack

Every flagged camera event reviewed by a trained human, with live deterrence and three escalation paths the operator can pick from. Pairs with UniFi Protect Dispatch for end-to-end coverage.

  • Real human eyes on every flagged event

AI surfaces the events worth looking at; an operator looks at them. This is the part the industry calls 'professional' video monitoring — a person making the call, not just an algorithm.

  • Three escalation paths, operator's choice

Raise an alarm (treated like a panel-fired event with the full dispatch workflow), notify your emergency contacts only (call/SMS, no dispatch), or dispatch emergency services directly. The operator picks based on what they see.

  • Two-way talk-down — coming soon

Operators speaking through your UniFi camera's built-in speaker: a live human voice telling a trespasser they're being watched. This is coming soon and is not part of the service today.

  • Siren response on confirmed threats

When an operator confirms a real threat, the UniFi sirens at your site sound automatically — no extra call, no delay. You choose which cameras are allowed to trigger sirens and which sirens each camera fires, so a back-lot camera can wake the yard without the front-of-house alarm going off.

  • Lower false-alarm rates

Discretion-based escalation means responders don't get called for blowing leaves or a delivery driver. False-alarm fines and complaints drop; the calls that do go out are trusted and get a faster local response.

  • Indoor cameras: alarm, not review, when you're armed Away

Mark a camera Indoor and, while your system is armed Away, a person seen there is treated as a confirmed break-in — dispatched immediately with the clip attached, no review step. Nobody should be inside, so nobody has to judge whether a stranger looks suspicious. Outdoor cameras stay on operator review.

  • Door sensors with video

Link the cameras that look at a door or window to its sensor. When that sensor sets off an alarm, responders get the recording from each linked camera — the seconds before and after the trigger — alongside the alarm, even if the camera itself saw nothing it would have flagged.

  • Multi-camera correlation

When two cameras fire on the same incident — say, motion at a perimeter sensor followed by a person in the parking lot — the operator sees both events as one incident timeline.

  • Recorded video at hand

Operators pull the recording from the triggering camera directly from the event view (subject to your retention settings). No tab-switching between Uniguard Pro and the UniFi console mid-incident.

  • Site-specific call lists

Each site has its own escalation tree — primary contact, secondary, key holders, after-hours. When the operator chooses to notify, they follow the list in order with every call logged.

Tiers

Four tiers, sized by monthly event quota

Lite, Standard, Plus, and Max include the same operator service and deterrence tools. What changes is how many operator-verified events are included each month. The camera counts on each tier are a suggestion for which quota fits your site — not a cap on cameras.

Pair with Dispatch

Two layers: alarms get formal dispatch, suspicious moments get a human

UniFi Protect Dispatch handles the alarm fires from your Alarm Manager. Video Monitoring puts live operator eyes on everything that flags but doesn't fire — so a person notices and escalates before things get worse.

Dispatch is the formal alarm-response system. Video Monitoring is the attentive second pair of eyes. Together they cover both the events that hit the alarm threshold and the suspicious-but-quiet moments in between. See UniFi Protect Dispatch →

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • How is this different from UniFi Protect Dispatch?
Dispatch is the formal alarm-response flow — when UniFi Protect Alarm Manager fires an alarm, we treat it like a panel event and dispatch emergency services if needed. Video Monitoring is the layer above that: trained operators review AI-flagged camera events even when they don’t trip an alarm, and escalate at their discretion when they see something suspicious. Most customers run both — see UniFi Protect Dispatch.
  • Do you watch my cameras 24/7?
We don't stare at a live feed — nobody can usefully stare at a camera for 8 hours. Your cameras run AI on the events that matter; trained Uniguard Pro operators review the flagged events in real time. You get the benefit of constant attention without the cost of constant staring.
  • How fast does an operator review an event?
Most flagged events are in front of an operator within seconds of the UniFi Protect AI detection. If the operator decides to escalate, your first emergency contact is typically being called within a minute of the camera firing.
  • Is there a limit on how many cameras you monitor?
No. Every video tier covers all the UniFi Protect cameras at the site. The tiers — Lite, Standard, Plus, and Max — differ by how many operator-verified events are included each month; the camera counts on each tier are our suggestion for which quota fits a site of that size, not a cap. See the video tiers on the pricing page.
  • Can operators talk to an intruder or set off my sirens?
Sirens: yes. Siren response sounds your UniFi sirens automatically the moment an operator confirms a threat — it's opt-in per camera from your portal, and you pick which sirens each camera is allowed to fire. Talking to the person through the camera (talk-down) is coming soon and is not part of the service today.
  • What is the difference between an Indoor and an Outdoor camera?
You tell us which it is, per camera. Outdoor cameras (driveways, yards, entrances) are reviewed by an operator when they see a person — people outside an armed building can be legitimate. Indoor cameras watch rooms that should be empty while your system is armed Away, so a person seen there is a confirmed alarm: it is dispatched immediately with the clip attached, with no verifier asked to guess whether a stranger looks suspicious. While you are armed Home, indoor cameras are not actioned; while disarmed, both kinds follow the normal review path.
  • What kinds of cameras work?
UniFi Protect Video Monitoring is built specifically around the Ubiquiti UniFi Protect ecosystem — any camera supported by a modern UniFi Protect console and the Alarm Manager / AI features works. For alarm-side coverage on Alarm.com panels (no cameras involved), see our Alarm.com central station.
  • What does “beta” mean here?
The service is live and operators are reviewing real events — beta means we are deliberately growing it one site at a time so we can watch every account closely. You get the published pricing and the full escalation workflow; we ask for direct feedback and we may contact you about how your site is performing. Nothing about the response itself is provisional: a confirmed threat is dispatched exactly as it would be at general availability.
  • Do I need any extra hardware on site?
No. Video monitoring works through your UniFi Protect console: when a camera you have switched on sees a person, our operators get a short recorded clip and live video through UniFi’s cloud. Nothing is installed on your network. During setup you test each camera you want monitored, because a few cameras — mostly third-party ones connected to UniFi — don’t deliver usable video this way.
  • What happens if my internet goes down?
UniFi cameras keep recording locally and the events queue up on the console — Uniguard Pro operators can't review what they can't see until the connection is restored. For sites where any outage is unacceptable, we recommend a cellular backup link so operators stay in the loop even during a wired-network failure.
